I ‘m in the kitchen, skinning fresh tomatoes for tonight’s dinner and pleasantly listening to Brogan in the room with Angie. They are exploring language today, and at the moment it’s the letter T……. I have to admit to a feeling of contentment. Brogan and I had discussed energy levels during sessions this morning. It is hard to keep them up and consistent especially at the beginning of a session, and we talked about what might help. I did 20 minutes to “get Angie going” as it were,and Brogan took over. It certainly seems to be working as I heard Angie say “jump!” 4 times in a row.
I do love the teamwork we have evolved doing son- rise.
Other news. We have just had a week off the program to take a camping holiday. Angie was marvellous but did need to retreat back into her autistic behaviour to feel comfortable. She asked me to put her back in trainer pants as she was anxious about the toilet, but she used a word card and speech to convey this and so I respected it and decided to ” be ok with it” as the son- rise teachers would say! I didn’t see it as a regression. We were back to normal as soon as we got home.
The funniest thing was when Angie sat in the tent saying “go!” really clearly when we had family round to the site for a BBQ
Fund raising endeavours are going quite slowly, and we need to step it up a bit. We have lots of plans but bureaucracy is so often slowing things down.
We still need to acquire money for the large mirror in the play room, that is the most pressing need a the moment.
I will say more about our financial and practical situation in another blog, as there is lots of news there. Just wanted to share the fun stuff.
Lastly a tribute to my dear mum, who I lost in February, who has continued to care for us with her generosity and provided the means to make our home a better environment for Angie, who loved her nana dearly. Everything spare we have goes to the son- rise program, so many things in our house, and even our holiday is because of her.
