Well, it has been a tough few weeks trying to run our programme the way we were advised back in America. Our second group meeting was very positive but we were starting to feel a bit overloaded being one person down, ill.
Well, it has been a tough few weeks trying to run our programme the way we were advised back in America. Our second group meeting was very positive but we were starting to feel a bit overloaded being one person down, ill. We reminded ourselves that we are like Angie, “doing the very best we can right now” which is what our Son-Rise teachers encouraged us to think when we begin to feel overwhelmed. And we also know that whatever we do will help Angie in a positive way even if we can’t manage the amount of hours we would like to give her (for now).
We have two new people interested in helping with the programme, and we are going to speak to them soon. Babs is also very interested in getting a couple of college students involved. We all feel Angie would benefit greatly from some younger people around.
Angie hasn’t spoken very much more than usual, but her enthusiasm for her Son-Rise time has greatly increased. Requesting to “PLAY!” spontaneously at all sorts of times when we aren’t having sessions. Such as if I’m watching the news, cooking dinner, or trying to get washed! For goodness’ sake Angie!! Ha ha, she is so funny, not too chuffed though when I explained I couldn’t right now, stomping up the stairs! She’s also taken more of an interest in pretend play just lately which she seems to really enjoy. This is a key motivator in developing abstract thought to aid her social relationships and so is very encouraging. It has to be said, it also makes it really fun for us too. We’ve been messing about with wigs, hats and face paints and interactive games all week.
Also new this week Angie seemed to be developing road sense for the first time. After I explained what the consequences of a road accident could be, whilst out walking, she has been concentrating on the cars going by and staying well in on the path, and reaching for my hand to cross the road. I felt relieved and excited at the same time if that is possible. Previously she would run around on the path and stand on her tiptoes on the kerb – yikes!
Angie has been listening a lot to the new album “Stealing Hope” which was released on the website last week-end. Her dancing is getting more sophisticated, and very entertaining! She particularly likes the first track called “Clean Up” and the Seasick Steve track “Cut My Wings” This is the album from which we now hope to raise funds to sustain the Son-Rise program in to the future, so please tell your friends, their friends, etc
Anyone with kids check out the bonus track on “Stealing Hope.” Zachary Smith’s version of 5 little ducks. It’s such fun! And Angie loves it of course!
