Well, Angie surpassed herself last Sunday. We visited a friend’s church in Hampshire and she went to the Sunday School for the main part of the service.
Well, Angie surpassed herself last Sunday. We visited a friend’s church in Hampshire and she went to the Sunday School for the main part of the service. She behaved impeccably in what was a strange place with people she hadn’t met before, and when the children came back in to say a brief sentence as to what they had been doing in to the microphone, she signed “Please” urgently and took the mic and said “Pah!” into it, quite proudly.
What, you might ask is the significance of this……?
It demonstrated that:
- She understood what her peers were doing and wanted to be part of it
- She was able to request the mic by signing “Please” and using her body language
- She had sufficient applied knowledge and understanding to hold the mic appropriately and spoke a sound into it as best she could
- She has acquired sufficient focus to initiate a social communication
We were told by a paediatric consultant when she was diagnosed this would never happen!
